SIS Conference 2008

Course Description
SIS is a comprehensive course focusing on issues related to cardiac, vascular and neurological disease. Presentations by thought leaders, data from recent investigations, discussions of clinical experiences and live-case demonstrations are among the methods used to impart the latest information. In addition, the Seattle Science Foundation’s state-of-the-art BioSkills Lab will provide the attendee with the opportunity to learn new minimally invasive and endovascular technologies using hands-on simulation and cadaveric specimens.

Target Audience
This symposium is designed for physicians who specialize in cardiology, neurology and vascular medicine.

Needs Assessment
Specific topics and learning strategy needs of this year’s attendees have been identified through last year’s course evaluations, expert opinion of the planning committee members, clinical trial results, new device/drug approvals and reports of post market experiences, and newly released journal articles.

Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this conference, the participants will provide better patient care through an increased ability to:

  • Compare and contrast the current and evolving DES stent platforms
  • Describe approaches to complex PCI including left main disease and chronic total occlusions
  • Understand the status of current clinical trials in coronary artery disease
  • Identify current percutaneous closure devices for ASD, PFO and LAA
  • Prescribe appropriate current adjunctive pharmacotherapy for endovascular intervention
  • Describe current data, technologies and techniques of endovascular intervention for carotid and peripheral disease
  • Differentiate and apply current and evolving non-invasive imaging techniques for vascular disease
  • Identify and apply techniques for acquisition and interpretation of images
  • Define the role of non-invasive imaging for interventional procedures including MRI, CTA and 3D TEE
  • Demonstrate anatomical structures related to coronary and vascular disease including structural heart disease
  • Apply new technologies acquired during training with cadaveric specimens
